CHARACTER EDUCATION AT EINY
EINY has implemented its own Character Education Program with the help of our School Counselor, Ms. Flynn. Character Education is a teaching method which fosters the development of moral and responsible behaviors. Students will be able to learn about core values that embody an upstanding citizen such as empathy and compassion, honesty, responsibility, integrity, and accountability.
Friendly Falcons, Grades 2-8
The Friendly Falcons, Peer Mentoring Program is for our 6th to 8th grade students. They volunteer to support, nurture, and guide younger students with open arms in a responsible and respectful manner.
There are a variety of areas at EINY where the Friendly Falcons offer support. They facilitate great conversations and fun activities by partnering with the Community Service Club, hosting Holiday Parties and acting as School Ambassadors to help the school community. It is expected that Friendly Falcons exhibit generosity, accountability, discipline, creativity, liveliness, and initiative.
The purpose of the Friendly Falcons Program is to create strong relationships between grade levels and foster a strong school community, while teaching students responsibility, citizenship, and leadership.
Peaceful Peers Mediation Initiative, Grades 3-8
The Peaceful Peers Mediation Initiative is problem solving by students, for students. Each student in the Elementary and Middle School will receive conflict resolution training to participate in and facilitate peer mediation sessions for their classmates.
The purpose is for each student to be independently and collaboratively capable of solving common problems. Peer mediation seeks to enhance their communication skills and empathy to improve classroom and school harmony.
Caught Being Kind Awards – Middle School
Each month, Middle School students are awarded a certificate for their genuine acts of kindness. Teachers and students can recommend a student for the Caught Being Kind Award. EINY recognizes the authentic acts of kindness of its students and promotes its continuity.
EINY’s Middle School Coat of Arms and Mission Statement:
Created by EINY’S first graduating Middle School Class.
The Mission Statement and Coat of Arms represent what the 8th grade class of 2017 believed that EINY stands for. Their dedication and work are now a point of reference for this year’s 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
We plan to honor this Mission Statement and Coat of Arms in the years to come.
Our school is a small school, which allows us to have quality interactions and relationships with our teachers on an everyday basis. The teachers are always supportive, and as students, we are very kind to one another, and we support each other. We stand for individualized learning, multilingualism and internationalism. We learn different languages and multiple cultures. Our classmates speak French, English, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Hebrew, Italian, German and Arabic. We have different opinions and perspectives, and these qualities about us come together and help us learn. We strive to lift each other up rather than bring one another down, be intellectually and independently driven, and to work as a community to have a positive impact on the world around us.
