Welcome to Elementary

Our team welcomes children from 1st to 5th grades.

The Elementary school continues the implementation of bilingual learning which begins in the Pre-Elementary school.

Students are well supported as they learn the complimentary academic methods set by both the French Ministry of National Education and the highest standards in the United States.

Elementary Program

Building a Bilingual Academic Foundation

The Elementary School Program provides a balanced distribution of instruction: approximately 58% in French, 34% in English and 8% in a foreign language (Mandarin), sports, and music. Within that distribution, each grade also incorporates a set number of hours for bilingual classes which are co-taught in various core subjects.

The mission of the Elementary School is to offer an academic program of in-depth learning and versatility, where students are able to learn and explore using the best French and American approaches.

Acquiring Core Competencies

While drawing everyday inspiration from the United States Common Core Standards – and the best practices from the highest performing states in the US, École Internationale de New York provides instruction at the elementary level based on the programs set forth by the French Ministry of National Education. These programs are carefully harmonized for each grade throughout the year by classroom teachers, the elementary school pedagogical coordinator, and the administration. Each subject promotes the competencies to be acquired throughout the school year. Accordingly, the school places priority on:

  • Mastery of the French Language, taught by French teachers certified by the French Ministry of Education
  • Mastery of the English Language, taught by certified American teachers
  • All content areas, including mathematics, science and social studies, are taught in their respective languages during English and French class times
  • Access to technology using Chromebooks and iPads for each elementary classroom
  • Social and civic competencies mobilized by both content and civics instruction
  • Autonomy, initiative, and interpersonal work skills developed through project-based, student-driven learning
